The Philodenron plant I have, were 4 plants together. The leaves are in a tear shape, dark green, 10in long by 4 inches wide at the widest point. It got too bushy/big. So I separated each. They have long 'old' roots. I tried to put them into dirt in separate pots:keeping them moist for 4 weeks or so but they are still in the wilting shock position..and leaves are slowly turning yellow. So, I pulled them out of the dirt; placed them into pails of water 2 days ago. Maybe? my imagination, but the leaves seem to be getting 'stronger' . It is only 2 or 3 days but I think? they are doing better than in the dirt. Quest: should i cut down a bit those long roots..I am trying to 're-root' them to place them 'again' into dirt in separate pots.

Yes, you can re pot the plant. A Philodendron will grow in just plain water. You can put pieces in a glass of water until you see roots growing, and then put in the pot. I cut long pieces and put in water, when rooted I fill in the planter for fullness. This is the greatest plant, you can't hardly kill them.
Reply:This is what I would do when repotting a plant under the same conditions. I would put the newly repotted plant into a deep saucer and keep some water in the saucer so that the soil is wetter than it should be and slowly let the plant get use to a less moist soil. Probably over a few weeks period of time. Since you have noticed considerable wilt I would guess that the roots on each individual plant is not enough to nourish the plant. To help the plant out till more roots develop I would trim off some leaves from the bottom. You can keep the plants in the water but its not going to do as well and they need more fussing over than if they are in soil. If you were to try to pot up a plant that has been in water for a considerable time your chances of success are slim. There are alot of folks that do not like this method because of the potential for fungal infections but I guess I have been lucky cause it works for me the majority of the time. Good luck and maybe someone else will post alternate methods.
