Two days ago a duck landed on our front lawn. Don't know where it came from it probably came from the park nearby. We thought he left but today I woke up saw him in our back yard by some plants.
Now I found a 6 inch high tub. I'l fill that with water but what should I feed him?
What kind of food should I feed a duck?
If you feed him the cracked corn that was mentioned, I would add water until it is the consistency of watery oatmeal. Put it in a large shallow pan and put a big clean rock in the center to help hold it down or else the duck is going to flip the pan over as it guzzles down the corn. Bread is fine but your duck needs additional nutrition. Ducks will eat soft people food (no meat). Cooked carrots (cut small), peas, macaroni, potatoes (cut small or thinned mashed), etc. If you have a cat or dog, soak some of the dry food in water for Mr. Daffy. You might also check with a local feed store--I would not be surprised if they have Purina Duck Chow. Be sure to keep your tub filled with water. Also your duck will keep down the slug population in your yard (they love them). I grew up in the country and we had ducks. Enjoy your new duck.
Reply:They eat all sorts of things from worms and bugs to plants. They do have duck feed that you can buy at the feed store, but it's not necessary since they are wild.
You can throw them some bread, crackers and go night crawler hunting.
I was surprised to learn that they eat minnows, too.
When I was raising my ducks, I had a pond that I wanted to put fish in. I bought a bunch of feeder gold fish and the ducks went crazy! They ate every one of them! So I went to the local bait shop and bought 100 minnows. They loved them!
Reply:Bread. Ducks love bread!!
Reply:Duck food!
Reply:Chicken Scratch or layer peletts
Reply:Cracked corn, that is what I fed the ducks I had (shhh! I stole them from a school that was going to slaughter them)
