I've planted five differant type of pepers from chilli's to green bells; A whole flat of big boy hybreds tomatos planted at the same time are two inches tall now. I just don't get It.
How long should it take for pepper plants to break groung from seed?
I understand your frustration, having had the same experience. I have tomatoes that are now a good 8" tall, and seem to really be thriving, whereas my peppers seem to be just getting a good start, 6 weeks after planting out!
Here's a website that tells the Top Ten TO DO with peppers that you might like...http://www.ecoseeds.com/Pepper.growing.t...
It does say that hot peppers will sometimes take up to a month to germinate, and to never, ever use peat! oops....
Happy Gardening!
Reply:Peppers need warmer earth temperatures (not air, soil) than tomatos and thus could be the reason for the delay. At 50 degrees, 80 percent of tomatoe seeds will sprout while only 1 percent of pepper seeds. Peppers need at least 70 degrees earth temp to really get going.
