My newly planted arborvitaes are weighted down by ice should I worried?

I planted 22 arborvitaes this last spring. I covered them with a green scrub screen. This morning we had a .25 inch of ice and it has weighted them down. They all are standing about 1 ft shortered due to the weight. None of the individual branches are weight down just the tops of the trees. Should I worry? is their anything that can be done other than trying to knock some of it off?

I would wait and see. I am assuming they are fairly young, which may give them a leg up on older more established and woody plants. Since you planted in the spring they are fairly well rooted. I noticed with the ice storm in Indiana a few years ago that it was primarily the older and very large trees that went down the quickest. Hopefully, it warms up soon. Good luck. I hate to lose plants.
Reply:Not really trying to remove the ice will damage the trees more than the ice itself.
Reply:It is a wait and see situation now. Most gardeners are going through this because of the early icy weather most of us are getting.
