I would like to get small cichlids. My tank color scheme is black and orange. I would like to get cichlids that would go good with my color scheme. I only have a 10 gallon. Aquarium has a 50 gallon per hour filter. Heater set to 78 F. Medium sized black gravel. Four orange 7 inch plants. Two butter dish sized caves. I have a white air opperated decoration. Water is 7.2 pH, which could be a nice medium for africans or south americans. So, I think I could get either africans or south americans.
What type of fish should I get???
the most beautiful and smallest cichlid is call a Blue German Ram. Very colorful and cool looking. but if you're commited, water should be on the soft side and ph should be around 6.5-6.8. they grow only about 3 inches but spawn every month.
Reply:50 gallons per hour isn't that much, but it gets the job done...
German Blue Rams and Bolivian rams would be the only possible cichlids that would fit in comgortably in your tank. They prefer pH to be on the acidic side, but they can live with 7.2

Reply:Maybe look at dwarf rams, maybe a parrot fish, firemouths and maybe some assorted malawi's....
Good luck, hope you figure it out!
Reply:you cant get ANYTHING with a ten gallon, and your color scheme. try a 50 gallon tank and some red zebra cichlids, they are african and they are orange not red. then try some black gravel, which will really bring out the color of your fish. then some driftwood, you can buy it at petstores. and caves. you can probably have about 6 and some small cats, like corys or upsidedown catfish. then a rubber mouth or maybe an albino pleco, they dont get as big as regular ones.
and you do NOT put a golfish in a TEN gallon tank! golfish get WAY to big for a ten gallon and even thought you have a good filter they still may prodice too much waste for a ten gallon!!
sorry bout the out burst but it annoys me when people think they can fit goldfish it itty bitty bowls
Reply:first, it would be safer to have the thermometter set to 76F. You could go with yellow cichlids wich would go with the theme you have but I think it would look nice with blue cichlids for a sriking contrast agenst the yellow and orange. Further more, only get 3 to 4 cichlids for the ten gallon tank an d nothing more.
Reply:All knowing fish king hubby says, you can get them in any color, go to walmart or your local trusted pet store and check it out.
