Can I cut the entire tree off to about six inches from the earth?
I have a yucca palm plant (tree) six feet high that has two base stems threeinches thick. It is too tall.r?
Do you want to get rid of it or just trim it? Your yucca will grow back again if you leave it about six inches from the earth... and if it has two base stems, you'll get maybe 6 this time. Yuccas are very resilient and will come back with a vengeance.
Reply:Well, since lots of trees grow to over six feet I can't imagine why you think this one is too tall. No it's not too tall.
Is this a house plant or is it planted outside? Is it a Yucca or a Palm (not the same plant family). Yucca is a shrubby desert plant with sharp, pointed leaves that grow from the stem. Palms are tropical or subtropical tree like plants some varieties of which can grow to over 50 feet tall. (You know, the one with the leaves that only grow out of the top of the stem.)
If it's a Palm and you cut off the the top it will die because it cannot produce leaves anywhere except the growing top. If it's a yucca it may or may not die but, unless it produces buds from the base of the plant, I would go with yes it will die.
Can you cut it off? Well, I wouldn't but it's not in my yard.
