I got this plant for Christmas from my neice. It has been a week since she gave it to me and there isn't even a little sprout. What can I do to make it grow? I tried music, I tried reading to it, I keep staring at it, but it won't grow, not an inch....
I got a dinosaur pill from my nephew, as soon as i dropped it in the water, it grew like mad...how do i get this plant to work like that? I'm at the end of my rope...
Is it broken?
My plant wont grow! Help?
ok the plant is not broken. Where you are going wrong is the constant staring, you are making the plant nervous man. It's the equivalent of a watched pot not boiling..
Reply:Ask your nephew if you can get another dinosaur pill and put in in the plant and then dump water on it, maybe it will help the plant.
Also feed your plant left over fruitcake.
Reply:It's nice you've kept your plant company...have you tried any water on it?? (lol)
Reply:It might be sick. Take it to a plant doctor.
Reply:I got some trees for donating to Arbor Day. The instructions said the plants are dormant during the winter and that's why they don't grow but I'm going to throw a dinosaur in and maybe they'll grow anyway! :-)
lol
Reply:So wait, did you get a plant, or a seed from a plant? If you got a full-grown plant you likely won't notice much growth in the span of one week.
Some seeds take more than a week before you will start to notice a sprout come up. The larger the plant, the longer it normally takes. It was about 2 weeks before an orange seed I planted came up.
Generally I would say start the seed in a wet paper towel until you got a sprout, but I guess it's too late for that now. Just keep watering it when the soil is dry or the pot starts to feel light (every 2-4 days) and leave it somewhere relatively warm with natural light, that's about all you can do.
Did you only plant one seed? Most plant seeds have about an 80% success rate, so 1 in 5 seeds won't germinate.
If you tell us what kind of plant it is and more details we can give more specific answers.
Reply:Um. Well, there's always bovine growth hormone....maybe that will work. Or Flintsones vitamins. Remember, ten million strong and growing!
Reply:Have a little patience! Plants are living things, and don't grow visibly while you watch them. They grow slowly. And a week is not enough to see new growth. Sometimes plants rest and don't grow for weeks, sometimes they shoot up an inch or so in a week. Take good care of it, don't water it too much and drown it, but don't let it die of thirst, either. Stick your finger in the soil and if it is wet, don't water, if it feels dry, water it.
You don't see your hair grow, do you? It just gets longer without you noticing too much. Well, you won't see a plant grow, either. It is not like a dinosaur pill, which is a sponge, and expands in water!
Reply:Maybe it's the type of music. Mythbusters said heavy metal does best. The rest don't do anything.
Depending on the plant it can take a few days to a few weeks for it to break through the soil and grow from there. Worse comes to worse, give it a little plant crack (miracle grow).
Happy new year
