I have some small chilli plants, about 4 inches tall. I want to send them via post but don't know how to wrap them. Any ideas? I don't want them drying out or being damaged, or stamped on by that nasty Royal mail man who seems to be waiting for my parcels! I will be posting within the UK. Thanks!
How can I post a seedling safely?
Before you mail them make sure you are not breaking the law. Many countries forbid mailing any plant life. This is to prevent the spread of diseases. Fines can be quite high for you and the one receiving them. Even within the same country.
Reply:Water the plant a bit and wrap the pot in plastic wrap to keep the soil in. Then use wadded up newspaper as a "bumper" all around the plant. Use enough that it cannot move around. I post plants all the time and also receive them.

Ouch! Don't do it! Peppers are very temperamental as seedlings. Although they may be able to handle dryness they cannot tolerate the improper handling (tossing if pkgs) nor the cold temps of air freight holds. They have to be transported as animals do and that costs a lot more because it is live and temperature sensitive. You would do better to merely mail the seeds and instructions for growing. Seeds can be wrapped for safety more easily. BEST WISHES!
