My jade plant got too cold and wilted now all thats left is a stump with no leaves about 3 inches high and almost an inch in diameter. Is it possible for it to come back.
Jade plant?
Oh yeah, mine did. We are in zone 9 and had a hard freeze last year that descimated my jades. I had to prune off all of the freeze damaged wilted branches almost to the point on one that there was barely a nub left in the dirt. The others still had some of the "trunk" left and a few branches. There is hope! It will come back all of mine did, including Mr. Nub Trunk who is showing signs of tiny little rubber leaves coming out of his nub. But, we are due for another frost and this time I will protect my little jade friends by covering them (I can't take them in they are too large and in the ground). If your is containerized, just make sure it doesn't get blasted by cold again by taking it in or cover it outside if it is in the ground. (Oh yeah, I did give them all a blast of fertilizer when I brutally pruned them back just for a jolt of growth energy).
Reply:Iy dies :( but i got a new one.;) Report It
Reply:your plant will surely come back,if you just give it enough water and sunlight.and keep it a little warmer
Reply:Those things are almost impossible to kill. Yes, it will come back.
Reply:absolutely, they are terribly resilient, you should see improvement in the spring
Reply:i have a 30 year old jade plant that has had bad cold damage twice and came back both times. the worst was last fall when it lost all of it's leaves got a bad scale infestation and 2 of the trunks started rotting.
I removed the rotted trunks (this had to be done 3 or 4 times over a period of 6 months). Kept it watered but not too wet. Fertilized monthly with a combo of kelp and fish (I am organic so I don't use Miracle Gro? or like products but these work too). Cleaned scaled off several times and when it got warm in May I put the plant outside in the shade and it came back beautifully. As a matter of fact, my jade plant looks better now than it ever has.
Reply:The plant will recover, in time. Jades are rather slow growers and you might feel that it would be better to replace it with a new plant that has all its leaves.
Reply:Everyone else is saying yes, but I am not so sure. Jade is a succulent and they can be severely damaged by the cold and are prone to rot. If your Jade is still alive then you will be able to see some green when you scratch at the surface or bark like stuff near the base of the trunk. On trees this thin layer is called cambium. If you scratch and scratch and you do not see any bright green then your tree is dead and not coming back. If you do have a layer of green, then you can save it. However it is severely stressed and you must nurture it back to health. Keep it warm, watered and put it in the direct sun.
