Ok so I have this oak tree I planted in a pot this spring. It is about 5 inches tall now and has 5 leaves. I have fertilized it and watered it the whole summer, but it doesn't grow bigger neither height-wise, nor width-wise. What can I do to make it grow faster.
Because this years oak saplings in the forest are already much bigger then mine.
How to make an oak tree grow faster?
Oaks may not like full sun.
Reply:It's okay for you to have it in a pot, after all, it is only 5 inches tall right now, it will just grow a little slower than the ones in nature. If you want to keep it in a pot be sure to eventually graduate it to a larger pot and fertilize it maybe once a week. You need to realize that Oaks are slow growing trees. If you know the spot where you want to grow it in the yard it is probably large enough now to be planted there. If you don't know yet, keep it in pots longer until that spot appears. As you will see at Nursery's they sell trees that have been growing in pots for a long time.

Reply:A potted oak may not grow as fast as one in it's natural environment, but a bit of Miracle Grow couldn't hurt. Remember, though, that trees do most of their growth in the spring, and only a little later in the summer. That's why you can count the "annual rings" when you cut down a tree -- the wide lighter colored band is the spring growth, while the thin denser portion that looks more like a narrow line, is the summer growth.
Reply:1st get it out of the pot and in the ground !!!!
Oaks are not a "house plant" for a pot. They are a tree. Alarge tree that is slow growing, along with slow growth comes a very long life.
Oaks need to be in the ground and develop a good strong root system-then they start growing.

Reply:Put it in the ground, plan for it to get huge in years to come so put it where it can stay for a looooooooong time.
my baby trees have grow 5+ feet this summer.
miracle-grow is ok if you mix it weak , it will burn the plant easy. I know.
Reply:I was told you must make sure you have enough Iron in the soil.
Reply:I agree, miracle grow works great.
Reply:Having it in a container is going to limit it's growth. Trees will grow faster planted outdoors because they will have built a root system that can support the growth of the tree. Most trees in the first year won't grow very fast, because they're putting on their roots. If you want to tree to grow faster in a container, get a bigger container. In most instances, once the roots have become root bound in their container, they'll quit growing and stay about the same size.
Oak trees are slow growers, and yours is probably putting on roots now, instead of growing up.
