We have a flagstone patio with about 1 inch gaps with soil where we would like to grow moss or plants to fill in the space. Any recommendations on what to grow there and the best way to do it?

Good choices are Irish moss, chamomile, or low-growing thyme. They all stand up to foot traffic. Before planting, make sure the soil is well enriched with organic matter and tilled well; you won't want to get in there to do it later. Keep the area moist until the plants are established, then you can basically ignore them.
Reply:A great way to grow moss is to get a small patch of it, stick that into the blender--yuck! with about 1/2 Cup of Buttermilk.Blend well. Then slob it onto whatever you want it to grow on. A small paintbrush works nicely.Keep moist. Report It
Reply:Low growing herbs fill in fast, look nice and scent the air. Careful to choose one with a mild fragrance, tho. I had instructions for a buttermilk and moss blend that you pour between the pavers and grow your own moss but can't locate it...maybe someone out there will have knowledge of it. The terrace I had seen outside Mobile with this method was incredible.
