I planted my 3-4 inch seedlings on Saturday into my garden. I grew them from seed in Peat pots. It has rained for 3 days and they aren't looking so good. Too much rain? Should I leave them be or bring them back up to the nice sunny deck to dry out a bit? They have not rooted beyond the peat pots yet.
Help with sad tomato seedlings?
As long as they are not in standing water they should be fine. They should be protected from torrential rains with some kind of cover, like large plastic containers that cottage cheese and margarine come in. Be sure to remove the covers as soon as the rain ends, you don't want the sun to come out and cook your babies under thier "hats"
Reply:tomato seedling cannot standing transplanting when they are small(transplant them when start to flower). Since you have done it, move them out again is a bad idea, may be you can built them a shelter(stick 4 poles and put a cover on them) in case it started to rain again until they are slight bigger.
Reply:I think nothing happens if u leave it.may be the growth will be slow if u have still cold weather.
the whole tomato stem has roots.so even though if they bend also they can be grown easily in soil.
Reply:they were probably too small to plant out yet so not able to handle all the rain. Try to protect from more moisture for a few days if that doesnt work maybe dig up and let dry out and replant when weather nicer
Reply:too small to plant out. Only thing you can do is leave them in and hope or go buy some plants.
Reply:They need to be dried out a bit. Back to the sunny deck!
