i started in a soft white underground egg. above i am about 2 inches tall, orange in color and at my top i have 6 starfish like appendages.i am soft and i have a foul smelling slime and my stem is honeycomb like inside. there is a picture if you can help just ask and ill email my picture if thats allowed. i think i am some kind of mushroom. please help identify me....
What kind of plant am i?
Sounds a lot like the Dog Stinkhorn fungus, the botanical name of which is Mutinus caninus. Slime at the top of the mushroom contains the spores and the odour is supposed to attract flies which them pick up and spread the spores. Unsurprisingly this species is not edible (would you want to?). Had thought that they only appear in autumn/fall but maybe in Spring too.
