How long does it take a blueberry/ raspberry bush to produce fruit?

I just got 2 of those small fruit plants that you can get at Lowe's or Wal-mart... and the container said that they are one year old. The blueberry bush is maybe 1 foot tall, and the raspberry maybe 6 inches. I live in Southern New England. when will it produce fruit!? Thanks!

They will probably try and put fruit out the first or second year... The thing is that you would benefit from triming the blossoms off before they begin to ripen into fruit. Be sure to only pinch the flower and not the stem. What you are doing is encouraging the plant to develop roots and branches that will benefit future fruit production. Do this for 2-5 years (if you can wait) and your bushes will reward you.

Orchards and vineyard do this for 5-10 year to bump up production and build healthy tree and vines.
Reply:Blueberry plants flower in spring, with flowers at the tip of canes and the tip of the cluster opening first. They are pollinated by bees. Fruit development occurs for about 2 to 3 months after bloom, depending on cultivar, weather, and plant vigor.
Reply:It can take a year after you have planted them and they get established.

Sometimes you can get fruit in the first year but some experts say to remove this as it weakens the bush.
