What would happen if I only put about 6 inches between about 3 rows of corn?

I want to plant a few rows of corn, about 8 stalks altogether, in my backyard. The package says to place them 2 1/2 to 3feet apart to ensure good pollination and full kernels. I only have about 4x5 feet to work with. Can I still plant it?

In 4 to 5 feet you can devote the entire space to corn, planted 18 inches apart with a secure knowledge it will be OK.

If you have to plant at 24 inches the yield can still be as many as 18 plants, which seems adequate in yield.

Reply:It should be ok, but yield will probably drop a little due to some plants being shaded. 2 rows together is as much as I'd go.
Reply:Yes you can you will just have more fun weeding it!
