I planted some store bought potatoes and the started growing very healthy plants. They are about 6-8 inches tall now. How do you know where to dig or when to dig them up?
When do you dig your potatoes?
Wait until after they bloom to look for potatoes. Then dig about a foot around the base of the plant. I dig new potatoes early in the season then leave the rest until fall to dig and store.
Reply:If you want them just to eat immediately you can start checking them in a couple of months. If you want potatoes that will keep long term, wait until the frost kills the vines, then dig the potatoes. In either case they will be in a rough circle about 1-2 feet in diameter around each plant.
