I bought a couple of blueberry plants. They're only about 10 inches high with 2 or 3 branches, with the leaves just budding. I'm going to nutture them as best I can, but how do I avoid those tiny, sour berries?
How do I grow my blueberries big, plump and sweet?
A decent amount of water and not too much fertilizer. Plenty of mulch around your plants to conserve moisture loss through evaporation. Your plants are a bit small. Be patient, in a couple of years you will have more berries than you know what to do with.
Reply:Sour berries come from being picked too soon. If you are talking about commercially produced and purchased berries, you have to realize they are mechanically picked and many berries that aren't quite ripe yet go into the pot! When you grow them yourselves, you can wait until they are perfect, but you need to cover them or the birds might beat you to them!
Reply:To go along with answer 1 blue berries like acid soil. Add aluminum sulfate for this and along with your fertilizer add magnesium/epsom salt.
Reply:Buy some worm castings they should have them at your local nursery and sprinkle or scratch in around the plants
