I have purchased a hand auger through e-bay. It is made of iron and firmly put together; very heavy, however, when I received it, I could not figure out how to use it. This hand antique auger is wide enough to make an eight inch hole in the ground for planting or placing fence posts. Help...
How do you use an antique hand auger for setting up post.?
Just start a hole where you want it with a shovel and then place hole digger in the hole and turn it (it should have a cross handle at the top that you turn to did with), after it goes down about the depth of the auger pull it out and empty the dirt to the side and start again and keep emptying the the dirt from the auger. You can only dug down as deep as the the tool is counting the shaft and handle. Good luck.
