What are good houseplants to grow in minimal light?

We live in town, and both sides of our house have houses 24 inches away...needless to say we don't get much light from the outside anywhere in our house really, but we would love to grow some sort of house plant...are there any out there that will actually grow with these conditions?

Try a "cast iron" or "closet" plant.

Reply:Any type of Peace Lily... I've got a few in low light, almost dark and they flourish. Great green foliage and pretty white flowers.
Reply:you might try a "mother in laws tounge" they are low maintance and very easy to grow. you might also try a philidendren they are pretty easy to care for as long as it gets some light
Reply:Lots of restaurants/bars have darkened windows and they grow beautiful sanseveria which are also known by two other names. These are mother-in-laws tongue and snake plant. They are available in a short variety called birds-nest sanseveria which can be up to six or seven inches in height. The medium height ones grow up to about 12 inches and the tallest ones I have are about two feet tall. You may also be able to get a variegated variety in the tallest one. The long blade-like leaves have whitish borders.

Good growing
