What should I expect from Chinese Lantern Plants?

I planted my Chinese Lantern Plants from seed around the end of August. They sprung up well and the leaves are now about 6 inches wide. However, the leaves are now turning yellow and the ones on the bottom are dying. Am I watering too much? Is this normal now that it is cold out? It's around 50 degrees where I am now although the plants are still getting full sun a few hours a day. What do I do to save my plants?

What should I expect from Chinese Lantern Plants?
Hi:

Chinese Lanterns are perennials and will come back each year. It depends what climate zone you are in. Mulch around them for the colder winter months.

I grew Chinese Lanterns from seeds in a greenhouse. They propagate well, but one word on caution. They will spread after the first year, and can take over a garden. Sometimes I will recommend to my clients to put the Chinese Lanterns in a planter or container. If you want a specific garden of Chinese Lanterns, go ahead and let them spread. It will be a full garden.

As far as the leaves turning yellow, this could be from over watering or under watering. If you live in an area where there has been drought, many plant specimens have suffered. Leaves also turn yellow if the weather is changing. Chinese Lanterns will die out in the winter in zones seven and above. Some of zone eight will also die out.

Hope this has helped some and feel free to contact me at my website if you have any further questions. I will link you to my site map. This page has everything that is on the website.

I will also give you a link to my blog as it is daily updates. Good luck to you and have a great day!
