What's this plant, with orange berries?

It's a solitary spike, around 8 inches tall, covered in bright orange berries. It appears, seemingly overnight, in woodland at this time of year. Thanks.

If you are in the UK it could well be an arum, commonly known as cuckoo pint or lords and ladies. I have a link with a picture of the plant that I think you are talking about

Reply:Sounds like cucoo pint, also known as lords %26amp; ladies. don't be tempted to eat it %26amp; wash your hands after touching!.
Reply:You have to give your region. Flora varies greatly from place to place.

Reply:Hi Proofreadergirl.

As already said, it is Lords and Ladies/Cuckoo pint. Its Latin name is Arum maculatum as it is a common arum lily.

Here's a picture search link for you:

Thanks.
Reply:that would probably be an arum lilly of some kind. Check around the base of the spoke. There are often mottled black/gree arrow shaped leaves
