Can grass grow in an area with a lot of small rocks?

I want to plant some grass in a small area and I have found that there are a ton of small rocks about 4 inches deep. They must have been put there to prevent weeds.

Do I need to dig them all up or can I just rototill, mulch, and plant seed?

Your best bet is to go ahead and bite the bullet and get the rocks out of there. Over time they will work their way out and become wonderfully dangerous little things that your lawnmower will fling every which way.
Reply:grass will grow, but not very thick. dig it out and put in 3" of top soil, and starter fertilizer.
Reply:gotta dig um out of there....
