Why are the leaves from my tiger aloe (aloe variegata) shedding of so much?

Hi, aloe experts please help, i bought an aloe variegata (patridge breast aloe) for mothers day for my mom, it had five pups growing around the base of the mother plant.when they had grown a little i had divided them and planted them in there own little clay pot with their own set of roots, here's the thing a couple months later, the mother aloe is shedding one leaf a day the leaves at the base are all starting to die now it's shedding all the way too the top, i thought every year they were suppost to shed 2-5 leafs but this one has already shedded a good 12 leafs and the shedding process keeps on continuing. I give it lots and lots of light it is in bright light in my moms room, i don't overwater it, i give it a good fertilizer, but it is in a two inch pot and this is a fully grown aloe variegata, oh and the pups are doing finer then fine. Does it just need transplanting?

Cut off ALL water and do not use regular fertilizers on an aloe. An aloe can live a long time without water (up to a year or more). They will go dormant and spring back to life when given water later on. Definately repot it into a 4" inch pot with a good cactus mix. As you are repotting, remove any dead or dark roots which will minimize disease and mold. If the die back is coming from the tip to the truck, its lack of water and if the other way, it could be over watered. Either way, a fresh start in new soil will probably help you out. Hope it helps out.
Reply:it might need a bigger pot.. and only water it when its dry to the touch.. over watering makes the leaves go yellow and drop off.
